What is GTIN?
GTIN stands for Global Trade Item Number. It is developed by GS1 and is used as an identifier for trade items. These identifiers act as lookup product information in a database. How to Configure Global Identifier with Rank Math? PRO
To configure Global Identifier with Rank Math, head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > WooCommerce. In your dashboard WooCommerce settings, you will find a Global Identifier tag.
In the Global Identifier drop-down list, you can select your Unique Product Identifiers from the drop-down list.
Let’s take a close look at each of the identifiers that are available:
- GTIN-8: It is a code that is used for small items usually 8 digits.
- GTIN-12: It is the most common code which is used in North America of 12 digits.
- GTIN -14: It is a 14 digit number used to identify trade items at various packaging levels.
- ISBN: Full form of ISBN is International Standard Book Number. As the name suggests it is used for books.
- MPN: Full form of MPN is Manufacturer Part Number. These are generally found on the machines and hardware that comprises of different parts.
You can make use of any Global Identifier key from the list to use in your Product Schema.
If you enable Show Global Identifier and set a Global Identifier Label, then it will display the Global Identifier on the Product page.

How to Set a GTIN Code for a Product? PRO
In order to set a GTIN code, you need to go to the product editor page. Open the Inventory tab. Fill in the GTIN field that is present.
Make sure that you provide the correct number for the product and its variations. For example, if you are selling jeans in different sizes, then you need to add the GTIN for each of the jeans.
